Director

Helena WITTMANN

Helena Wittmann creates series of experimental works that resets and re-contextualizes the function and meaning of space and spatiality, evident in her series of short films from The Wild to Ada Kaleh. As Wittmann raises questions about their boundaries and creates new contexts, the rooms in The Wild and 21,3°C expand to become larger than a simple narrative space. Through the 11 tableau shots portraying the changing impressions of the room, 21,3°C guides us to notice the fundamental elements of cinema such as sound, light, and shadow. Her feature film Drift (2017) and her short film Wildness Of Waves present the changing visage of the sea in the form of movement-image. This year’s Jeonju IFF introduces the four masterpieces in which Wittmann effaces the subject’s attributes and transforms into a pure audiovisual experience.
