Director

Denis CÔTÉ

Quebec’s acclaimed director Denis Cote gained international fame through his hybrid genre of poetic narrative and minimalism. He first engaged with Jeonju as Drifting States (2005) won the Woosuk Award and later directed The Enemy Lines (2010) for the Jeonju Digital Project. Cote’s films oscillate between fiction, documentary, and avant-garde. The documentary Bestiaire (2012) traces the lives of cows, radiating a serene beauty. His recent films were introduced in Jeonju: Joy of Man´s Desiring (2014) on the labor scene overwhelmed by machine sounds, Boris Without Beatrice (2016) on the existential crisis of a businessman, and A Skin So Soft (2017) on the self-mortifying lives of extreme bodybuilders. The Berlinale-nominated Ghost Town Anthology (2019) portrays the life of a lingering ghost. Cote recently finished his latest film, Wilcox (2019).
